Memorial Day

To the soldiers who answered the call,
Understanding that their very lives were on the line
Who fought with discipline, purpose, and valor and sacrificed themselves in the name of freedom

To the fathers and mothers with an empty seat at the table of every family gathering, who watched their babies grow into adulthood, only to lose the best part of themselves the day that tragic news came

To the brothers and sisters with hearts full of memories, whose only desire is to pick up the phone and hear their sibling’s voice again

To the widows and widowers who lay alone at night, whose dreams of a life together have been shattered -and are left to put back together the broken pieces of their lives

To the sons and daughters who will never feel their parent's touch again, never have their shoulder to cry on, nor hear their words of guidance and reassurance

To the veterans who mourn their brothers in arms, suffering through the trauma that war and the death of their brethren brings

To all who have lost a loved one in service, who find themselves with great ache -constantly saying the words ‘I wish they were here right now'

We The People, thank you from the deepest part of ourselves.

On this day of remembrance, we honor the courageous and selfless men and women who have given up their lives for us. Knowing that our beautiful way of life is only possibly through their great sacrifice.

Today we remember the heroes, may we live lives worthy of your sacrifice.
